Annie Moore & Hall Effect
just before the 2006 4H District Horse Show

Annie, owner and head instructor, got her first pony at the age of three and has never been without a horse or pony since. She has worked professionally in the horse industry for more than 30 years and has been riding and showing for over 40 years.  Even while in college at Western Michigan University earning a major in history and minor in economics,  Annie never slowed down her riding and showing schedule.  Fortunate to have worked for true 'old time horsemen' in the hunter, Saddlebred and breeding horse worlds she now brings this unequaled experience to her students and boarders.

Moore Stables opened in its present location in May of 1985.  The Moore Stables’  Tack Box 4H Horse club was chartered in October of 1984.   Annie is current chairperson for the South East District 4H Horse Council and serves on the NC State Horse Council as well.  She does the course design and is co-manager for the Hunt Seat portion of the 4H State Horse Show.  In 1999 she was honored by having the NC State 4H State horse show dedicated to her.

Annie has been a board member of the Eastern Hunter Association since 1986.  She is currently vice-president of the EHA but has also served as president.  Moore Stables hosts the first EHA horse show of each season.

She has had the responsibility and pleasure of managing the following horse shows: the  USEF ‘B’ rated hunter and jumper rings for the Berrien County Youth Fair Horse Show in Michigan, the North Carolina Hunter & Jumper Association ‘c’ shows, the 4H District Horse Shows and two very successful 3 phase horse trials here on the farm as well as dozens of schooling shows.
Her students have been champions at USEF  'A' rated shows, the EHA and NCHJA circuits, as well as 4H State Champions. She took riders to the EJ Haun finals, the Maclay medal finals and the Marshall and Sterling Adult jumper finals.  Moore Stables’ alumnae have gone on to show successfully on the intercollegiate teams of NC State, UNC and Clemson University.  They have also been blue ribbon winners in Wellington, Florida at the Winter Equestrian Festival.

Currently Moore Stables riders are showing USEF, NCHJA, EHA and 4H in the Junior Hunter and Children’s Jumper divisions, the NCHJA Pony Hunter and the EHA in Short Stirrup and Young Entry.

Connie Johnson

Connie & "Eagle Springs" on the left & Candy Bar Blues on the right

Connie Ward Johnson, originally from the beautiful state of Vermont, began her riding career under the instruction of Helga Vaundell. Mrs. Vaundell, of German heritage, operated a riding facility on the Ward family summer resort in Farley, Vermont.
Her father purchased her her first horse when she was in the 6th grade but Connie had to work and earn the money necessary to pay for showing. Having to cope with the harsh Vermont winters and hand carry warm water to her horses was only part of the daily chores expected of her by her father. Connie's determination, hard work and commitment to riding are lasting character traits that only add to her wonderful personality.

She competed at local shows as well as at ‘A’ and ‘C’ rated horse shows in her district.

She attended Springfield College in Massachusetts. While there she was a member of the Intercollegiate Equestrian Team riding in the open divisions. She coached the team her senior year in college.  Graduating in 1975 with a BS in Physical Education, Connie is currently teaching PE at Bell Fork Elementary School in Onslow County. Moving to eastern North Carolina after her marriage to one of our nations finest, a young marine now a retired Sargent Major, she and her family have been here ever since. Connie  has been boarding and training her horses at Moore Stables for over 15 years. Because of her dedication to teaching and the pure love of the sport she has been donating her time working with the lesson and 4H programs for 10 years.

Moore Stables is proud and very fortunate to have Ms. Connie as part of our team!
